Breaking news: last night, the House Appropriations Committee voted to provide $300M for LSC in FY 2026 — a 46% cut from our current funding. The Senate, on the other hand, approved a $6 million increase earlier this summer. Notably, both chambers rejected the White House’s call to eliminate LSC entirely, demonstrating ongoing strong bipartisan support for civil legal services. But the House’s plan would roll LSC funding back to 1999 levels — even though today 52.3 million Americans qualify for legal aid, compared to 45.6 million back then. The result?
