HOME | Prosimian Sanctuary

EPF is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit dedicated to protecting primate individual welfare and species survival in captivity and in the wild. Our Prosimian Sanctuary provides rescue and behavioral rehabilitation for lemurs from the pet trade. EPF's mission is to protect captive and wild primates by supporting in-country conservation programs, educating the public on the hazards of owning primates as pets, and providing expert husbandry for rescued primates housed at EPF's Prosimian Sanctuary. The Prosimian Sanctuary is the only sanctuary in the US dedicated solely to providing behavioral rehabilitation and lifelong care for lemurs and other prosimians rescued or surrendered from the pet trade, roadside zoos, and other inappropriate environments.

HOME HOW YOU CAN HELP SANCTUARY RESIDENTS ABOUT US CONTACT DONATE NEWS More PROSIMIAN SANCTUARY SAVE THE LIFE OF A LEMUR Lemurs make up a large percentage of the estimated 15000 primates kept as pets in the US. They are also exploited at roadside zoos and as entertainers and photographic props. There is tremendous demand for sanctuary space because so many private owners have learned the hard way that wild animals like lemurs do not belong in human environments. Other reputable sanctuaries either dont accept prosimians or are at or near capacity.
