Seeking to employ a preschool pod teacher for 3-4 year olds seeking for the entire 2020-2021 school year starting Oct through June. Basic Information: We have a solid 3 families already committed to a “pandemic pod.” Hosted in a rented room at a building near Columbia Heights DC Monday – Friday, 8am to 1pm One parent will act as a support person/aide/wrangler each day Parents will provide lunch and snack for their kids. Parents will provide toys, supplies, arts and craft materials, etc., in collaboration with the teacher. Job Description: Create/implement a preschool curriculum strong on outdoors and nature, socialization and conflict resolution skills, and fostering a love of learning. Montessori activities, child leading and life skills Establish a balanced daily schedule between structured “lesson” time, free play, lunch & snack, and outdoor play. Establish a balanced weekly schedule, including music, art, physical education, STEM, etc. Daily social-emotional learning on healthy ways to express feelings Terms & Benefits: Paid as a salaried position, commensurate with experience. More information available upon request. Will be a 1099 employee and responsible for own taxes. Start the beginning of Oct 2020, end mid-June 2021, with possibly to extend with one or more families over the summer etc. Paid Thanksgiving, winter break (Dec 21 - Jan 3), spring break (5 week days in April), and federal holidays. 5 paid sick days. Must be able to legally to work in the US (citizen, permanent resident/green card, or visa that allows employment). Preferred Qualifications: Someone with relevant in class experience with kids at this age (teacher, daycare teacher, tutor) Someone who can walk, drive, cycle to work without use of public transport (for social distancing’s sake) Fluent in Spanish ( not required) Maintain a mixed age classroom Able to squat, kneel, bend and lift up to 30 pounds Able to engage with children outdoors in varied mild weather conditions COVID-19 Precautions: We are conscientious about social distancing (working from home or in isolation, don’t have other kids at daycare, maintaining physical distancing recommendations, etc.). We expect the teacher to be conscientious as well. Some families are high risk parents in the pod. Location is cleaned daily by professional cleaners. Teacher must led kids in regular hand washing and wiping of surfaces before and after use. Teacher must communicate immediately with parents if you suspect you have COVID-19 or if exposed to someone with it. Teacher must be willing to use rapid COVID tests if necessary Parents will communicate with other families and teacher and will not send children to school if suspect the child or anyone in the family has COVID-19.
