What’s happening up there east of the Garden Plain High School stadium? As part of our strategic plan, the Council of Hope Inc purchased 5 acres of property, several years ago, adjacent to the Garden Plain High School athletic stadium complex (Picture 4). Recently The Council of Hope Inc proposed sponsoring a project in conjunction with the Renwick School district to improve the safety of our community members during large events. One way the CoH board felt they could continue to be of service to the area and specifically Renwick school district, is to develop the Council of Hope properties planned parking area adjacent to the current athletic complex parking. The plan allows open access to this parking area and presents a resolution to the current safety issue of parking on the old 54 highway during large sporting events, causing people to have cross traffic during these busy times. This project being sponsored by the Council of Hope Inc. also corrects drainage challenges and provides the funding to finalize the installation of the wrought iron fencing on the east side of the Renwick property to complete the circuit around the full stadium. The plan for the CoH property in the future includes a community center where we hope to bring community benefiting events large enough to service the regional area of south-central Kansas. The Council of Hope Inc is a registered 501 (c)3 non-profit organization in the state of Kansas headquartered out of Garden Plain, with the stated mission of helping to develop the rural south central Kansas area regionally.
