Concordance Academy of Leadership

Overview

Concordance Academy of Leadership is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing reincarceration rates through a holistic, integrated, and evidence-informed re-entry program. Concordance works to break the cycle of incarceration by providing a comprehensive model that includes 12 essential services. These services encompass behavioral health and wellness, such as cognitive therapy, mental health support, substance use programming, and physical health; education and employment, offering HiSET® tutoring, digital literacy, job readiness, and full-time employment opportunities through the Concordance Employment Agency; and community and life skills, including housing assistance, legal services, family reunification, and community support.

The organization's approach emphasizes the importance of addressing trauma and co-occurring factors like mental health disorders and substance use issues, which are prevalent among incarcerated individuals. Approximately 80% of individuals in prison suffer from mental health disorders, and 83% struggle with substance use disorders.

Since its inception, Concordance has reported significant reduction in reincarceration rates among its participants. The organization states that it has reduced the reincarceration rate by 45% in St. Louis, where it is based. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of its re-entry model, which is unique in addressing multiple aspects of an individual’s life to ensure successful integration into society.

Concordance is led by an interim CEO, Susan Stith, following the passing of its founder, Danny Ludeman.
