Each September, communities across the nation come together to celebrate Recovery Month—a time to honor the strength, courage, and resilience of people in recovery, their families, and the organizations that walk alongside them. This year, we were proud to stand with communities across Oregon and Washington. On September 5th, we joined the Oregon Recovers Walk at Drake Park in Bend, where our Deschutes County Community Center Manager, Gabrie Ward, reflected on the power of coming full circle—returning to their hometown in recovery to represent the organization that helped save their life. In Southern Oregon, our Regional Director, Camille Ireland-Esquivel, shared how meaningful it was to see nearly 200 people unite for the Rogue Valley Walk. We also joined the Oregon Recovers Walk in Portland, uniting with hundreds of peers, partners, and families to celebrate recovery at the heart of our state’s largest community. At Hands Across the Bridge, thousands gathered not only on the I-5 bridge but also in Salem, standing hand-in-hand to show the power of recovery across our region. Our Finance Director, MacRae Bogdanov, described the profound impact of “recovering out loud” with thousands gathered across the I-5 bridge. We were also honored to participate in Washington State Recovery Day at the Mariners Game, which our Washington State Director, Adrian Burris, describes as a meaningful and purposeful experience. The impact of having an entire stadium full of people cheering on recovery was unforgettable—showing that recovery is something to be celebrated openly and proudly. We also proudly participated to True Colors Move YR Bawdy and Go The Distance 5K Fun Run/Walk and Kids Dash!!! These events are reminders that recovery thrives in connection and hope. They also show us that recovery is real—it’s happening every day, and it changes lives. As Recovery Month closes, we carry its spirit forward. Share your story. Show up for someone you love.
