The only 100% Volunteer Fire Company in Anne Arundel County, MD. Ferndale Volunteer Fire Co. was established in 1942. The station works in partnership with Anne Arundel County Fire Department to provide fire and EMS services. Throughout the years the county assisted Ferndale volunteers by providing 24/7 staffing. In early 2010 career staffing was pulled from station 34. The volunteers stepped up thier efforts and provided coverage on a daily basis. At the present time the county provides career personnel to staff the ambulance during weekday business hours. Over the past few years, using grants and donations, the FVFC has greatly improved its apparatus fleet. In 2011, FVFC ordered a new rescue squad (Squad 34) from Pierce Mfg. In 2014, FVFC ordered a new engine (Engine 343) from Pierce Mfg.
