Today, we pause to reflect on the mothers in our lives whether it’s our own, our wives who raise our children, or those who step into the role of “mother” for someone in need. To all of you: we tip our hats and say thank you. Thank you for your strength, your compassion, and your unwavering love. For some of us, Mother’s Day brings a quiet heartache. When you’ve lost your mother, this day feels different. But I know she wouldn’t want tears—she’d want us to celebrate the life she gave us and hold tightly to the memories she left behind. There are mothers among us who live with a pain few can comprehend—the pain of losing a child. Whether through addiction, illness, or tragic circumstance, their loss is etched in their hearts and visible in their eyes. No words can truly fill the emptiness, but we stand with you. May today bring a spark of joy through fond memories. Then there are the mothers we know through our work, those who are not with their children today. Not because they don’t love them, but because circumstances, systems, or misunderstandings have forced them apart. Some have children with medical needs that were misinterpreted and misunderstood. Others face a system that too often fails to see the full truth. These mothers cry tears not of celebration, but of sorrow and longing. Mother’s Day is meant to honor all that it means to be a mother—but for many, it’s also a reminder of what’s missing. We must do better. The system is broken, and though we push for change, it doesn’t come fast enough. So today, when you hug your loved ones, take a moment to hug them a little tighter—for the mothers who can't. Hold space in your heart for the mothers who are grieving, who are separated, who are longing to be with their children. They, too, deserve to be honored. (fb)
