The Kiwanis Club of Asheville was honored to welcome Assistant Superintendent, Dr. Suzanne Reed, and three principals from Buncombe County Schools at a recent meeting: Angela Trantham of Johnston Elementary, Brian Chandler of Barnardsville Elementary, and Courtney Capps of North Buncombe High School. Each shared how Kiwanis support made an impact in their schools during the 2024–2025 academic year. Barnardsville Elementary received a $500 donation that was used to replace chart paper and other classroom supplies lost to water damage during Hurricane Helene. At North Buncombe High School, Kiwanis contributions helped provide food for the March and April Student of the Month recognition events. Johnston Elementary has enjoyed a long-standing relationship with our club, which “adopted” the school approximately nine years ago. Since then, the club has supported the school in a wide range of projects including funding for teacher and student resources, attendance incentive bicycles, schoolwide PBIS activities like bowling, and help with the school’s new STEAM area. Founded in 1919, the Kiwanis Club of Asheville is proud to continue its mission of improving the world one child and one community at a time through this partnership with Buncombe County Schools. (fb)
