At Equine Healing Collaborative, we rely on Medicaid to serve our clients—children, adults, and families—who deserve access to compassionate, life-changing mental health care. 60% of Medicaid recipients are working-age adults (18–65), and 66% of them are employed. The remaining 40% are children and older adults, many of whom are vulnerable and underserved. Thanks to Medicaid, we are able to offer equine-assisted psychotherapy, trauma-informed care, group therapy, and individual therapy to those who would otherwise go without. In most traditional settings, these services are only available to those who can pay out of pocket or have specific insurance—but Medicaid funding allows us to offer them to everyone who needs them. Cuts to Medicaid put essential services like ours at risk—threatening access to care, community support, and even the stability of our herd. Investing in mental health saves money long-term by reducing ER visits, hospitalizations, and helping people stay employed. Without it, those who need care the most may be left without options.
