*WEEK 3* It started off as a buggy week on Wassaw, but Week 3 had a great attitude! And we had our first dawn nester of the season ☀️🐢! We saw our beach gators 🐊 and a diamondback rattlesnake 🐍, deployed camera traps 📸🦌, made some road repairs 💪🏽, finished putting up beach posts 🏖️, and ALSO had a total of 15 turtle activities and 11 nests! Week 3 was visited by Adopted Turtles Memphis Belle, Cricket (originally tagged and named on Jekyll!) Andrèa the Giant - our largest lady, and Old Faithful - our longest recorded nester! Thank you to Craig, Boots, Percy, Caitlin, Alden, Jadyn, Carol, Larry, Kristen, and George Lopez for an awesome week- we loved working with each of you! Thanks for great conversation, lots of games, and all your help around the cabin and on the beach. Our Strategy Caretta Research Project focuses work inthe following strategic areas Research Caretta Research Project uses longterm monitoring innovativeresearch tools and techniques and multiinstitutional collaborations togenerate scientifically grounded results that can be applied to sea turtleconservation both regionally and internationally. Conservation Caretta Research Project implements rigorous nest protectionprocedures to minimize direct threats to eggs and hatchlings on Wassaw Islandand increase annual hatchling production. Education Caretta Research Project provides unique experientialopportunities for public participants to volunteer in handson sea turtleresearch and protection during turtle nesting and hatching seasons. Throughout the year CRP also engages and educates a diverse array of public stakeholders in seaturtle conservation toimprove public awareness and support for initiatives toeliminate threats to sea turtle survival.
