Preservation Spotlight: In 2019, the Battlefields Foundation acquired 52 acres of the New Market Battlefield between the Valley Pike and Smith Creek. On this ground, Confederate infantry and artillery turned back a charge by Union cavalry during the fighting on the afternoon of May 15, 1864. Join guide Peter Dalton on Saturday June 7th for an in depth tour of the Cross Keys & Port Republic Battlefields as we commemorate the 163rd anniversary of the battles. The caravan tour will start at 9am at Union Church and will end in Port Republic at the Coaling around noon. The tour is FREE and no registration is required. (fb)
