California Attorney General Bonta has joined a coalition of 19 states in defending the right to privacy for those providing and receiving gender-affirming care. This comes after the DOJ issued subpoenas seeking patient records as part of the ongoing attacks against trans healthcare. AG Bonta described the information-seeking subpoenas as "outrageously expansive" and an effort to "intimidate those providing and receiving gender-affirming care." Further, they stated that granting these subpoenas would cause lasting harm to the field of medicine. The filed amicus brief urges the Supreme Court to instead protect patient privacy—a strong defense for the safety and dignity of trans people across the country.
