Florence, Fake News & the Future of Skin Health This year’s North American Clinical Dermatologic Society meeting took place in Florence — in the Medici family’s own courtyard, under a ceiling painted with gods, myths, and the four Cardinal Virtues (watching us all like judgmental Renaissance grandmas). Fitting, really — because one of the most urgent topics wasn’t lasers or miracle creams, but misinformation. Dr. Sara Poggiali’s talk, “Spot Fake News in Adolescent Dermatology,” hit hard: over two-thirds of health info on YouTube and social media — no polite way to say it — is FAKE. And teens aren’t just watching: they’re following the fake advice, sometimes with serious consequences. 🤦‍♂️Ironically, back in 2021, the WHO called this an infodemic — a global threat powered not by viruses, but by viral nonsense. Fast-forward to May 2025, and they’ve just declared skin diseases — all 3,000 of them, apparently — a “global health priority.” 🤨Which sounds great, until you realize they’ve also left national health ministries to figure out how, exactly, to prioritize all 3,000. No roadmap. No budget. Just vibes. Social media clapped. Few read the fine print. At VRF, we did. We always dig deeper — because skin health deserves more than applause and hashtags. So do your kids.
