We’re excited to share a new educational opportunity for aspiring midwives! The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus College of Nursing is launching a new Master of Science in Midwifery program—designed specifically for students with undergraduate degrees in fields other than nursing. This new program expands access to midwifery education and opens the door to a meaningful, in-demand healthcare career for those passionate about supporting women’s health across the lifespan. It also helps increase the number of skilled clinicians in maternity, reproductive, and primary care. CU Anschutz becomes just the third university in the U.S. to offer this pathway to becoming a Certified Midwife (CM)—joining SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn, NY, and Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA. Like the other two programs, CU Anschutz midwifery students will be educated side-by-side with students who have a nursing background and will be eligible to sit for the same nationally recognized certification exam through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) to become Certified Midwives. This program is a major step forward in making the midwifery profession more inclusive and accessible to a wider range of students.
