#NationalEggMonth in May celebrates the versatile egg. 🥚🍳🙌 The egg can be used in making baked goods or cooked in a variety of ways to create a main meal, appetizer, or quick snack. National Egg Month began in the 1960s as a way to encourage people to eat more eggs, but it took place at different times of the year. In 1976, the US Congress created the American Egg Board to promote and market the egg. In the 1990s, the Board selected May as the time to toast the estimable egg, and the egg has been saluted in May ever since. Some people might prefer their eggs soft-boiled and served in an egg cup like the one shown here. This cute little egg cup is a souvenir from the early 1900s and resembles a Florida orange. Have you ever used an egg cup? 📷: Egg cup, ca. 1910–30. Collection of the Museum of Florida History. #FloridaHistory (fb)
📣🌿🏠 IN ONE WEEK! 🏠🌿📣 Join us next THURSDAY at Mission San Luis for another fascinating History at High Noon presentation! 🕛☀️ This month, we will be joined by Andrew Waber, Historian for the Florida Division of Historical Resources's Bureau of Historic Preservation. Celebrate National Historic Preservation Month and learn about Torreya State Park and its Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) connection. Gregory House–one of the state’s earliest historic preservation projects–stands as a testament to the work of Black CCC companies in Florida. Andrew Waber, historian for the Bureau of Historic Preservation, will discuss his work updating the state park’s National Register of Historic Places designation. Program and parking are free and open to the public. 🆓 For more information, visit our Facebook event page: https://www.facebook.com/share/18RXCByqJa/ Attendees will receive complimentary admission to Mission San Luis. Before or after the program, be sure to shop in El Mercado! IMPORTANT NOTE: Due to construction, the temporary entrance to Mission San Luis is located at 2021 Mission Road, Tallahassee, Florida.
