Dear GWIS Northern Colorado community, We, probably like you, were devastated, enraged, and deeply saddened by the news of the overturning of Roe vs. Wade and Planned Parenthood vs. Casey on Friday, June 24th. The goal of GWIS is to encourage the growth and belonging of non-majority genders in the sciences. We believe that access to abortion is a right that is intimately connected to people’s ability to choose to enter the sciences. History tells us that access to contraception and the ability to end pregnancies are critical to allow equal participation in the workplace, and this certainly extends to the sciences as well. Further, while this decision affects all people, it underscores a disrespect for women and non-majority gender’s choices and freedoms. Please know our community is here grieving and screaming with you. And please contact us with any relevant information we can share through our channels. We list some resources below and encourage you to fight this injustice in whatever way feels appropriate for you - talking with family members, donating, calling your representatives, protesting, or simply commiserating with others who were devastated by this news.
