A POST FROM OUR GENETICS COMMITTEE... From the ECIR Group (Equine Cushings & Insulin Resistance Group) "PPID and EMS/IR are distinctly separate conditions. The often overlapping signs and symptoms can make diagnosis difficult. No longer a death sentence, horses can live long productive lives if these conditions are managed." PPID, EMS and IR are not considered to be prevalent conditions in the RMH breed, but there are some affected individuals. Based on previous requests, the genetics committee wants to share some helpful information that owners of affected horses may find useful.
