Patient Extrication, Lancaster Ave, Shillington TSFRS was dispatched to a school building on Lancaster Ave in Shillington Boro on Wednesday morning August 13 for a reported rescue, as part of a mutual aid assignment to Shillington Station 36 and Western Berks FD Ladder 18. Rescue Engine 85 responded from the area of Fritztown Road. On arrival, RE85 was directed by command to assist with extrication of a patient located in a hole approximately 5’ deep under a collapsed floor. Members worked alongside L18 and RE36 personnel to package the patient in a stokes basket under the care of Medic 6824. Personnel were then able to safely lift him out of the hole and place him into the care of EMS for transport. MVA with Entrapment on Shillington Road Early Wednesday morning August 13, TSFRS, along with our mutual aid partners from Wyomissing FD Engine 79, Western Berks FD Ladder 18 and Western Berks EMS, were dispatched to the area of Springtowne Center on Shillington Road for a vehicle crash, reported to be with entrapment. Additional information from Communications reported that the police were on location with a vehicle overturned in the center parking lot with an occupant trapped. R85 arrived and found one vehicle with one person inside over a retaining wall on its side resting against a parked vehicle . Crews went to work and immediately stabilized the vehicle prior to attempting to remove the patient. Rescue struts were employed on both top and bottom of the vehicle , along with a chain tie back to E79, which was staged on the driveway into the parking lot. Personnel then removed the windshield to allow the occupant to be removed within 10 minutes of arrival. When the rescue was complete, crews secured their equipment and stood fast until released by the police.
