North Star Community Services

North Star Community Services is a nonprofit rehabilitative services agency serving Northeast, North Central, and parts of Eastern and Central Iowa in the United States. Established in 1975, the organization is dedicated to providing quality support services for adults with a wide range of disabilities, including older adults with age-related challenges.

Mission and Vision

North Star aims to empower individuals with disabilities to achieve their personal goals and live independently within their communities. The organization focuses on community integration and inclusion, providing person-centered services that respect the dignity and individuality of each person.

Programs

Accreditation and Licensing

North Star is accredited by CARF for Community Integration and Supported Living services. It is licensed by the Iowa Department of Inspection & Appeals for its adult day services.

Impact

The organization has been instrumental in helping individuals like Gloria, who was part of the first Supported Community Living program. Gloria was able to live independently for 15 years, exemplifying the success of North Star's innovative approach to supporting people with disabilities.

Evolution and Growth

Over the years, North Star has expanded its services to various locations, including Waterloo, Waverly, Vinton, New Hampton, Marshalltown, and Mason City. The organization formerly operated under the names Adults Care, Inc. and Adults Incorporated before adopting its current identity in 2005.
