Carle Health plastic surgeon and Carle Illinois College of Medicine Clinical Sciences Professor Dr. Victor Stams is leading a groundbreaking effort to transform post-mastectomy care using 3D printing technology. Collaborating with CI MED student Rand Kittani, Dr. Stams is developing a process to create affordable, custom-fit breast prostheses right in the physician’s office which can eliminate long wait times and high costs that often prevent patients from accessing care. “Beyond cost and convenience, what excites me most is the opportunity to give patients a sense of dignity and control during a vulnerable time."
