Dance Institute of Washington (DIW) is the leading minority-led, pre-professional dance equity organization in Washington, DC. Founded in 1987 by Fabian Barnes EDUCATE. CREATE. ADVANCE. Eliminating barriers and advancing equity in the dance industry worldwide. Dance Institute of Washington provides youth the opportunity to develop artistically, socially, emotionally and intellectually through ballet and diverse dance. Its commitments to access, equity and artistic excellence distinguish DIW from others. DIW operates a pre-professional school, community engagement initiatives, youth ensemble and professional company, granting youth from diverse backgrounds the chance to experience the performing arts and develop skills needed for college/careers.
