The Bach cantata "Herr, gehe nicht ins Gericht" (BWV 105) was composed in 1723 for this Sunday, the ninth after Trinity, in Leipzig. The opening chorus is in the form of a prelude and fugue; both sections are marked by distinctive chains of suspensions. The soprano aria "Wie zittern und wanken" is among the most extraordinary in the repertoire. Listen to a performance of this work by the J. S. Bach-Stiftung here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amuqUQs0aFg You can find a translation of the libretto from Bachcantatatexts.org here: https://bachcantatatexts.org/BWV105 Hans-Joachim Schulze's commentary on this cantata (in a new translation by Jim Brokaw) is available here: https://iopn.library.illinois.edu/scalar/bachcantatas/bwv105bca114?path=titlebwv-index-path Robert Schumann's 1849 reorchestration of this cantata includes clarinet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnZF3hT1uHU (fb)
