ADDitude magazine, which produces content about attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), has long garnered public skepticism about the credibility of its publication, including from people with ADHD. This is well-documented. Recently, ADDitude has publicly attacked people with ADHD with deceptive and manipulative statements in a disgusting attempt to improve its reputation. We are shocked by ADDitude's conduct. The intentional deceit by the magazine toward the people it claims to serve is some of the most disturbing conduct of this nature that we have seen. ADDitude is a for-profit business. Recently, it was acquired and is now owned by WebMD, which made over half of a billion dollars last year. WebMD is part of an even larger corporate structure. There are a multitude of relations to very big corporate-money interests here. We believe that corporate interests now take precedence at ADDitude over the best interests of people with ADHD, and that ADDitude's recent conduct is an example of that. As such, we stand with people with ADHD against ADDitude magazine. ADDitude makes money from advertising. We encourage the community to no longer read content published by the magazine, to not visit any pages on their website, and to otherwise not engage with anything they produce. From a few months ago out of Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute at Stanford University, an interesting research experiment involving mice that indicated that the neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin work together but in opposition in reward-based learning and behavior. This knowledge may be useful in interventions for things like addiction, ADHD, and depression, which are generally thought to involve dopamine and/or serotonin. Interventions that modulate (change) both neurotransmitters may be more effective than only targeting one.
