Rotary celebrates World Polio Day this month in recognition of our efforts to eradicate polio around the world. The Sarasota-area Rotary Clubs have teamed up for a joint World Polio Day Celebration you don’t want to miss: Pizza & Pints October 19, 3-6pm Mellow Mushroom 6727 S. Tamiami Trl., Sarasota The District Rotary Rock ‘n Roll Band will entertain us, as well as stand-up comedienne and Sunrise Rotarian Debi Frock (who knew?). We’ll also have PolioPlus Pong, cornhole games, a 50/50 raffle, and lots more. Admission is free—you buy your own beer and pizza. Hey Hey, Rotary Club of Longboat Key is featured in the DISTRICT 6960 October Newsletter. Rotary Club of Longboat Key Leads Installation of Two New Fishing Line Recycling Containers An environmental cooperative effort between the Rotary Club of Longboat Key, The Town of Longboat Key, the LBK Citizens Green Team, Longboat Key Turtle Watch, and the Sarasota Sailing Squadron lead to the installation of two new monofilament fishing line recycling containers placed in a popular fishing spot at Overlook Park on Longboat Key. The team has created an additional three containers to be placed on Town docks when the docks are re-built due to damage from Hurricanes Helene and Milton. The containers are marked on a map on the FWC website (https://mrrp.myfwc.com/) via GPS coordinates so all who are interested can find the locations to help with recycling abandoned or unused fishing line. Monofilament fishing line left in the environment can pose life-threatening risks to shorebirds, sea turtles, fish, coral reefs, and other aquatic inhabitants.
