Billy and Menaka are teaching Native American Flute this week at the Folk School. The couple has been performing together for years and have their own special Folk School story to tell. Billy Whitefox is Eastern Muskogee Creek. He makes river cane flutes and is a self taught silversmith preserving his heritage through his music and craftsmanship. As he travels to schools, churches and prisons, he teaches the stories of his culture and helps people find healing within themselves. If you’ve eaten in the Folk School Dining Hall recently, you may have appreciated all the fresh tomatoes coming in from the Folk School Garden! 🍅🍅 Tomatoes have long been part of the crops raised on campus. Records from the earliest years indicate harvests of several dozen pounds of tomatoes a year, while the demonstration Tomato Trellis project of the late 1960s and early 1970s grew entire fields of the vegetable.
