As the COVID-19 pandemic spread in 2020, global cereal and fertiliser prices began to rise, and surged even higher after the Russia-Ukraine war broke out in 2022. By mid-2022, the cost of key food items had doubled or more compared to previous levels. To tackle these challenges, AERC, PEP - Partnership for Economic Policy, Economic Research Forum, ODI Global, and SPARC will host a 90-minute joint session at the SPARC & Jameel Observatory event in Nairobi on October 2, 2025. The session will bring together policymakers, NGOs, multilaterals, UN agencies, development banks, agricultural research centres, and other key stakeholders to explore new research, guide policy, and spark innovative solutions for food security.
