This week, LGBT Tech, with McDermott Will & Emery serving as legal counsel, filed an amicus brief with the United States Supreme Court requesting the Court reinstate a preliminary injunction blocking Mississippi’s House Bill 1126. If allowed to stand, HB 1126 would require social medical platforms to verify the age of users and obtain parental consent for minors before allowing users to create social media accounts. �� In this amicus, we argue that House Bill 1126 violates the First Amendment by interfering with an individual’s rights to free expression and to speak and access information anonymously, violations that will disproportionately harm the LGBTQ+ community, especially LGBTQ+ youth. We urge the Court to reinstate the injunction blocking enforcement of House Bill 1126 while the case challenging the constitutionality of House Bill 1126 is before the district court. �� In filing this amicus brief, LGBT Tech was joined by @TheTrevorProject, @PFLAG Inc., @FightfortheFuture, @HackingtheWorkforce, and @BayAreaLawyers for Individual Freedom.
