A., a 20-year-old, is battling a glioma — a type of tumor usually found in children. He lives and receives treatment in the U.S., under the care of highly experienced doctors who primarily treat adults. His family reached out to us seeking a second opinion on the most appropriate treatment plan. We recommended a consultation with Prof. Eric Bouffet from Canada, a world-renowned pediatric oncology expert. A Zoom meeting was held with Prof. Bouffet, the family, and A.’s pediatrician. During the consultation, the family received clear and accessible information — much of it for the first time — about A.’s condition, treatment options, possible tests, and clinical trials that may be relevant. Prof. Bouffet also recommended another specialist for further consultation, and the family has already reached out.
