While setting up new trail cameras, we stumbled upon this incredible beaver dam! Beavers are world renowned “ecosystem engineers” and their dams create, and improve, important wetlands. 🦫 Beaver dams: • Improve water quality by trapping sediments and pollutants. • Recharge groundwater and support healthy water tables. • Create habitat for fish, amphibians, birds, and many other wildlife species. Beaver dams are beneficial and a sign of a healthy ecosystem. Leaving beavers and their dams alone supports biodiversity and helps maintain natural landscapes. Property owners should not disturb or remove beaver dams. Disturbing dams can harm wildlife, damage natural water systems, and may be illegal in some areas. Instead of removing dams, observe beavers from a distance and contact the WLAC if there are concerns. 🪵 (fb)
