Created over a decade ago by two young cultural organizers and musicians, CapitalBop is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes, presents and preserves jazz in the Washington, D.C. area. We build audiences in order to build community around jazz, because it is important to the city’s historic identity and to the continued vibrancy of its culture. Over 10-plus years of presenting unorthodox jazz concerts and covering the D.C. scene with our web magazine, we have found that this music continues to speak powerfully to people of every color, creed, gender and age. We know that building a strong ecosystem, full of diverse audiences and creative performance opportunities, is most crucial to supporting D.C.’s jazz artists.
