Next up, meet tuba player Nick Guertin! 🎶 . . 🧪 Instrument: Tuba 🕒 Seasons with ACB: 6 💼 Day Job: Senior Research Fellow at Virginia Tech and small business owner 🎼 Favorite thing about playing with the ACB: Having my brother in the band too. 📍 Where did you grow up and where did you go to college: Connecticut. University of Washington. 🎶 Fun Fact: Our children just graduated High School and both are also Eagle Scouts. 🎵 More about Nick: I played tuba, bass violin, and trombone in high school including making All-State in Connecticut on tuba. I continued with a couple of community bands, when not at sea, while serving in the Navy. After the end of my service, I went to college and during my senior year, played trumpet, mellophone, trombone and tuba with the University of Washington Husky Marching Band. I then took a long hiatus until my children were in elementary school. My brother moved into the area and was playing in a local community orchestra. He asked me to dust off my trombone and join them. I took that summer to get my chops up, relearn some skills and gave it a go and played two seasons with them. I learned from a fellow euphonium player at the Kennedy Center during Tubachristmas about the Arlington Concert Band. Meet ACB percussionist, Jakob Drozd! 🎶 . . 🥁 Instrument: Percussion 🕒 Seasons with ACB: 4 💼 Day Job: Technical Consultant for a Geographic Information Systems company 🎶 Favorite thing about playing with the ACB: I’m grateful to still be able to use the music side of my brain outside of my 9-5, and I love the standard of excellence our ensemble has. 🎼 Favorite pieces of music you've ever played: Flourishes and Meditations on a Renaissance Theme - Michael Gandolfini; Angels in the Architecture - Frank Ticheli; Give Us This Day - David Maslanka; War Drum Peace Drum - David Reeves; Christmas Time is Here - Guaraldi (arr. Stephen Primatic) 🥁 How did you choose your instrument: I grew up learning piano and guitar, but a family friend gave me an old drumset when I was 12 years old. I was hooked from that moment and enrolled in the percussion class at school! 📍 Where did you grow up and where did you go to college: I grew up in Vienna, VA. I went to Allegheny College in Meadville, PA and Clark University in Worcester, MA. 🎵 Fun Fact: I’ve always been very involved in the marching percussion world!
