The truth is: poor policy and intentional decisions have worsened the sewage crisis for South Bay San Diego! When construction began on Mexico’s Tijuana Viaduct Project in 2022, officials intentionally broke the pipe that once pumped sewage 10 miles south of Imperial Beach to San Antonio de los Buenos, keeping it away from our coast. *You can see in the one of the finally videos the Viaduct, a massive roadway connecting the Tijuana airport to Las Playas has now been installed. That single act sent raw sewage flooding into the Tijuana River Valley, which ultimately flowed through our parks, near our homes, and straight into our beaches. Is this a trick or a treat? 🎃 Yesterday, Lee Zeldin and the EPA announced “important new progress” toward a 100% solution to end the sewage crisis. They reported a nine-month reduction in timelines for two key projects on Mexico’s side: 🔸Rehabilitation of Pump Station 1 🔸 Reconstruction of the Tijuana River Gates In this video, filmed this week in Tijuana, Mexico, you can clearly see sewage still flowing, unmanaged. What’s even more revealing? Behind it sits the completed viaduct, the same structure tied to cross-border contamination, one of the factors that worsened this crisis in the first place. Although actions toward solving the sewage crisis are good, they’re still not sufficient.
