Huge thank you to our board member, Nicolet @nicoletjl for watching the entire sanctuary alongside our incredible staff and volunteers so that we could go on a vacation with family. I used to think that since we “chose this life” to dedicate our lives to rescued animals that we weren’t “allowed” or it would be “frowned upon” to take time away for ourselves and family, but after doing this work for nearly a decade I know that that is FAR FROM THE TRUTH. It takes a ton of work to leave the sanctuary for a few days, but it’s worth it and we have sacrificed a lot in our lives to care for the animals, that I know we deserved this. Did we cut our vacation short to pick up our pig from the hospital? Absolutely. Did we also cut our vacation short to be home by the 4th of July because we knew we had to be near the animals in case of fireworks? Of course. We love this life we have chosen for the animals, we feel grateful to raise a family on our sanctuary— but that’s not to say it’s not incredibly challenging. So— fellow caregivers take the vacation if you’re able, it’s important. Today we are back to it, @spfpigman seeding some pasture.. snd we simply couldn’t do this without you all, so thank you ❤️ (fb)
