PUT IT ON YOUR CALENDAR: Tuesday October 21, 2025 Catalina Methodist Church 6:00 PM Invasive Plants of the Sonoran Desert — Sonya Norman Invasive species control is a passion project for Sonya Norman, public programs coordinator for the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum. Buffelgrass is tops on her Public Enemies List. Sonya will address our club to discuss invasive plants of the Sonoran Desert. She will tell us how exotic species travel, the many ways to deal with 'these clever little plants and a few animals,' and what we Tucsonans can do to help control invasive species in our corner of the world. She is a Tucson native, likes to hike and bike, and is an avid proponent of green initiatives. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Geosciences from the University of Arizona and for nearly two decades has been teaching workshops on rainwater harvesting and home-scale energy efficiency. Sonya worked with the City of Tucson's Transportation Department in the early design of street-side curb-cuts. She has coordinated the planting of more than 100 trees in her neighborhood. And most recently, she created a small park which stands as a demonstration site on rainwater harvesting and reuse of building materials. (fb)
