#Amitofo Care Center of Mozambique Buddha Bathing Ceremony (Commemorating the Birth of Shakyamuni Buddha) — May 13, 2025 In preparation for the annual Buddha Bathing Ceremony, on the morning of May 12, the children and staff went together to the lotus pond outside the village to gather fresh lotuses. With three large buckets filled to the brim, they cheerfully brought the flowers back to the main hall. At the same time, Venerable Ding Man and the children were in the hall carefully polishing the Buddha statues, making each one shine brightly and radiantly. Afterward, everyone worked together to arrange the ceremonial items, decorating the bathing basin with vibrant fresh flowers. The entire hall was soon filled with a gentle floral fragrance, creating a calm and serene atmosphere. Each year, the Buddha Bathing Ceremony is met with great enthusiasm—not only from the staff but especially from the children, who eagerly look forward to this joyful and meaningful occasion. On the surface, the ceremony involves bathing the statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, but its deeper purpose lies in the purification of our own mind. Through the act of bathing the Buddha, we symbolically cleanse ourselves of greed, anger, ignorance, and attachment, thus easing our burdens and attaining inner peace and clarity. Therefore, those who participate in the Buddha Bathing Ceremony are not simply pouring water over a statue—they are, in essence, offering a practice of inner purification. ACCL Wheelchair Donation Drive – Mponela District, 10 May 2025 On 10th May, the ACCL team visited the Mponela 2 Teacher’s Development Centre for a meaningful wheelchair donation ceremony in collaboration with the Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA). A total of 19 wheelchairs were donated — 11 large and 8 small — to individuals of various ages living with physical challenges. Among the recipients were 8 children from Mponela 2 Primary School, a resource centre dedicated to learners with disabilities. This impactful event was made possible thanks to the ongoing partnership between ACCL and MACODA. Special thanks to Ms. Grace, a devoted teacher at Mponela, who worked closely with us to identify the children in need. Stories That Touched Our Hearts Some of the children shared that they had dropped out of school due to mobility challenges. These new wheelchairs will empower them to return to the classroom. We encouraged all learners to pursue their education — because disability is not inability, and education remains the key to unlocking their future.
