Marie Koontz’s journey to better health began in 2018 after two brain surgeries led to significant weight gain. Over time, she developed type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, and chronic pain that made walking, breathing, and even singing in her church choir nearly impossible. In 2022, her primary care physician warned her she had a 60 percent chance of experiencing a walking heart attack if things continued. As a mom of two sons with autism, Marie knew she had to prioritize her health. She tried a GLP1 for a year, but developed gastroparesis, a condition that paralyzes the stomach and intestines. After years of living with significant pain, she decided to finally pull the trigger on weight surgery.
