LSHT Maintenance Report, 08/16/2025: Mowing and Corridor work. LLCL A group of volunteers spruced up the LLCL trail from about Mile 4 to Mile 5.7. We cleared the trail of forest debris, beat back the vine tunnels, and mowed the edge of trail to keep encroachment at bay, even if for a few months. It was a very still, humid day, and we tried to switch job duties so no one would get over exerted. This was the first time out with a new transmission on an aging mower, and it just flew down the trail. We had to nudge it a little on the gentle inclines. New trail markers were installed at confusing turns. A glove was lost; a glove was found. Despite the din of the mower, we heard many birds and the pileated woodpecker prodded us along with cheers of encouragement. Iced down grapes and those little oranges were cool treats as we wound up the day. Interested in helping keep the trail open? The LSHT Club organizes maintenance days on many Saturdays. Small bands of midweek volunteers do all sorts of trail maintenance. Large workdays are coordinated with the Sam Houston Trails Coalition or other trail enthusiasts.
