Swipe to see the early stages of this sculpture ➡️ This sculpture, titled "Florida Tree 5," was created by Shara Hughes earlier this year during her residency with the Norton and produced in partnership with the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach. Hughes made 14 new ceramic works during this residency. Each is titled "Florida Plant" or "Florida Tree," born from her time immersed in the tropical landscape. Ceramics can be a very difficult medium for any artist, as they tend to be unpredictable. The process requires patience, flexibility, and a great deal of trust. In a sense, this process of creation reflects the essence of Hughes’ future path — fluid, molten, and full of potential. These gourd-geous pumpkins are simply works of art! 🎃 As spooky season comes to a close, we wanted to share the boo-tiful results of our annual staff pumpkin carving contest. Each pumpkin was made by a different department, and many of our staff members were inspired by art around the Museum. Can you guess which works these pumpkins reference? Let us know in the comments.
