Youth Spotlight - AMAYINDI ADI AJI My name is Amayindi Adi Aji, I am a First Youth. I grew up in a broken home, and from a very young age, I felt like my life brought only regret and trouble. Inside me, I carried pain, hatred, and rejection. Many nights ended in tears, weeks were filled with withdrawal, and there were moments I thought of giving up entirely. Voices in my head told me I didn’t matter. Home often felt like a courtroom, where every small mistake was treated like a crime. I remember holding my little brother close as arguments and shouting filled the next room, trying to comfort him and stop him from shaking. At school, I was labeled “quiet” and seen as different. While my classmates laughed and shared meals, I sat alone, pretending not to care. Even when a neighbor once told me, “You should be grateful you have people,” it felt like my pain was being dismissed. All of this made me feel unseen and unwanted as though my existence was nothing more than a burden. But deep inside, a small whisper kept telling me that better days would come. That whisper kept me alive. And change began in the least expected places. Whenever I was given the chance to organize a small event, lead a group, or take responsibility, I poured my whole heart into it. People noticed. They encouraged me, thanked me, and valued what I did. Outside the home, I finally felt useful and seen. That difference opened my eyes: even in pain, I carried the gift of leadership. I decided to grow that gift. I taught myself discipline and consistency. I read books on leadership, joined inspiring groups, and pushed myself beyond my comfort zone. Slowly, I began to lead more, encourage others, and become someone people could rely on. The pain I once carried started to transform into empathy, strength, and purpose. I realized my struggles could be used to help others heal. Today, my story connects strongly with the mission of First Youth; ending violence, raising mental health awareness, promoting leadership, and building entrepreneurship. It shows that a painful past does not have to define your future. With the right support, self-discipline, and opportunities to grow, young people can transform their scars into strength and make a positive impact in their communities. A Message to Every Young Person; Your past is only a chapter, not your whole story. Your wounds can teach you compassion, and your scars can become your strength. Do not be afraid to seek help when you need it. Keep learning, keep growing, and use your voice to lift others up.
