Food sovereignty is about more than having enough to eat. It’s also about control, autonomy, and cultural survival. Our grantee partners – indigenous women in Peru – grow their own food using local seeds and ancestral farming methods. From seed to harvest to plate, our partners call all the shots. By doing so, they resist dependence on the external food systems that threaten their autonomy. The fight for food sovereignty advances justice in many ways. Girls and young feminist leaders are often underestimated in traditional philanthropy. There’s a persistent assumption that youth-led groups cannot absorb large grants. But we know that the opposite is true: flexible, long-term funding is EXACTLY what youth-led groups need to build capacity, organize and grow sustainably. That’s why since 2017, Global Fund for Women has directed over $3.9M in grants to girl-led and girl-centered organizations in 48 countries around the world.
