Book Club : Achilles in Vietnam by Jonathan Shay hosted by @rootedin_resilience , begins October 23. This initiative was created by Rooted in Resilience to bring our community together around stories of service, healing, and growth. We’ll start with the introduction and first two chapters of Achilles in Vietnam by Jonathan Shay, an exploration of what it means to carry unseen wounds from war. Our first group discussion will take place on Thursday, October 23, at 8:00 p.m. (EST) via Google Meet. The meeting link will be sent by email to all registered participants prior to the event. This discussion is open to all who have served—military, firefighters, law enforcement, and corrections—as well as the families and friends who stand beside them. Reading Schedule October – Introduction & Chapters 1–2 The Roots of Moral Injury — exploring the betrayal of “what’s right” and the breakdown of trust in leadership. November – Chapters 3–4 The Cost of Betrayal — examining the emotional aftermath, loss of belonging, and the process of rebuilding connection. December – Chapters 5–6 & Epilogue The Path Toward Repair — understanding how storytelling, trust, and community contribute to moral repair. How to Participate Books are available on Amazon or at most local libraries. Audiobook versions can be streamed for free on Spotify. A full reading guide is available through the link in our bio. You can register to join the Community Read by visiting our website and signing up under the Events page. Once registered, you’ll receive an email with the Google Meet link and additional details before our first session. Join and follow Rooted in Resilience as we read, reflect, and open an honest conversation on moral injury and how we move forward together. (fb)
Every Sunday Group is our online, peer to peer, weekly meetings built for veterans to speak openly about what’s going on in their life and the world around them, to walk through obstacles, and to find a sense of community. Within the scope of these meet ups we address the moral and spiritual wounds many of us carry. More so, it is also a chance to chat freely about anything. For those looking to join our next Sunday Group- visit our website at operationalliesrefugefoundation.org and look for the event tab where you will find our Every Sunday Group registration. Once completed, be on the lookout for an email detailing the link for our Group. We look forward to seeing you there!
