At our Zoom meeting on August 8, 2025, we are pleased to welcome Ken Prodger and Scott Gill, Certified Financial Planner and Chartered Special Needs Consultant from the Special Needs Planning Group (SNPG), to speak on the topic of “Special Needs Trusts.” A Special Needs Trust (SNT) is a legal arrangement that allows individuals with disabilities to receive financial support without jeopardizing their eligibility for government benefits such as SSI and Medi-Cal. It is designed to supplement - not replace - public assistance. Special Needs Trusts play a vital role in estate planning, especially for families with members who have disabilities. A Special Needs Trust is important because it helps preserve public benefits, provides supplemental support, protects against financial exploitation, offers flexibility and control, and ensures long-term care. It also brings peace of mind to families, allowing parents or guardians to feel confident that their loved ones will be financially supported even after they are gone.
