Atlantic spotted dolphins favour the warm, shallow waters along the continental shelf of the Atlantic Ocean, typically travelling in pods of five to fifteen individuals. These social groups are sometimes structured by age or sex. Calves are born without the species’ characteristic spots, which begin to emerge after their first year.
