As we prepare to celebrate Pride in San Francisco this weekend, we recognize that Pride is more than a celebration—it’s a living legacy of resilience. In the heart of San Francisco, a city shaped by activism and diversity, Pride honors generations of LGBTQ+ individuals who’ve fought to be seen, to be safe, and to be free. At JFCS, we are proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community. From supporting people living with HIV/AIDS in the early days of the crisis, to providing inclusive counseling, advocacy, and resources today, our commitment is rooted in dignity, compassion, and unwavering solidarity. This year, against a backdrop of rising hate and political polarization, support for the LGBTQ+ community is as critical as ever. With trans communities under attack, queer youth at risk, and hard-won rights on the line, we are reminded that the struggle is far from over. This #ThrowbackThursday, we're remembering our recent afternoon with JFCS volunteers in the Marin office with Julie Fingersh! Julie led us in a deeply moving conversation about love, identity, grief, and resilience. Reading from her memoir, 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘺: 𝘈 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘍𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺, 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦, & 𝘖𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘛𝘳𝘢𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘴, she shared her personal experiences—the invisible weight of caregiving, the complexities of parenting, and the quiet courage of those living with chronic medical and mental illness. This special gathering was part of an appreciation event for our Marin-area volunteers—an afternoon of connection, reflection, and gratitude for the compassion they bring to our community every day.
