When you reflect on your ancestral roots, do you feel inclined to dive deeper—or retreat to shore? 🌊 In "When we meet again," artist Rupy C. Tut invites us to sit with this question. Born in Punjab and now based in Oakland, Tut blends traditional Pahari painting techniques with modern storytelling to explore identity and belonging. Four golden bars represent four generations of women in Tut’s family. Their hands emerge from deep blue water. During the 1947 Partition of India, Tut’s grandmothers were forced to traverse floodwaters as refugees, carrying their newborn babies. Tut writes, “The future generations reach into that struggle and displacement event to pull the ancestors closer and learn about their life and story.” See it on view.
