Both chambers of the Vermont Legislature recently passed a bill that will protect access to many trails in Vermont. Specifically, the bill states that towns have the right to maintain trails that are former town roads (also known as Class 4 roads or legal trails). This right has been threatened by a lawsuit filed by a landowner in Tunbridge who wants to prevent the town from maintaining trails for recreational and other purposes.
