TWO NCS CHAMPIONS, ONE UNFORGETTABLE DAY! May 26, 1984-This Day in Antioch Sports History- Antioch High’s Softball and Baseball Teams are North Coast Sections Champions, a NCS first for one school to be holding both titles. To begin this historic day in Antioch sports, the boys took the NCS crown at the Oakland Coliseum with a come from behind win over Hayward High 6-4. Coached by 2012 Hall of Fame Coach, John Whitman and on the arm of Alex Sanchez, the 84 team would be the first of three NCS Championship teams from Antioch High School (84, 94, 95). Alex Sanchez would accept a full ride scholarship to UCLA and pitch in Major League Baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays and be inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2010. The 1984 team would enshrined in 2013. The Lady Panthers, 28-1, led by Coach Andrea Edwards, and pitcher Dawn Hilgenberg, caped off this exceptional day in Antioch sports history by beating Montgomery High of Santa Rosa 1-0, earning the coveted NCS trophy a first time. Coach Edwards, and Dawn Hilgenberg were inducted into the Hall of Fame 2013 and the team in 2011.
