We are sad to announce that on July 7, 2024, at the age of 87, Albert William David Carlson, Jr., of Baltimore, MD, passed away. Albert is survived by his son, Danny Bick Carlson (Gena), his daughter, Hannah Carlson Jurewicz (Michael), his stepdaughter Arlyn Eames Turner (Gene), his stepson Geoffrey Eames (Marcia); his grandchildren, Sam Carlson-Teasdale (Shelby), Malcolm Carlson-Teasdale, Chaney Bick Carlson-Bullock (Mikayla), Shannon Alexis Bick Carlson-Bullock, and Jacquelyn Sage Pesce Jurewicz, Ryan Turner, Bennett Turner, Grace Turner, and Isabella Gonzalez. Albert was an ambitious entrepreneur and founded numerous companies. Of note, was US Learning Corp., Alba Kids, Inc., and Personal Branding Gold. For over 45 years, Al dedicated his life to publishing and marketing educational and engaging materials and toys for young children. He created and illustrated the Selfs characters to educate children about how they experience the world and to empower them in changing negative self-beliefs to positive ones. Later in life, through his branding company, he worked with adults to do the same. Albert was an illustrator and cartoonist as well. His works included Awful Marshall, Good Morning Danny, Good Morning Hannah, Perkins the Brain, and Miss Maloo, among others. Albert was graduated from the University of Virginia having served as editor of the Virginia Spectator, manager of the lacrosse team, and member of St. Elmo, Delta Phi, and Jefferson Society. Albert wished that we not hold burial services.
