The diverse native plant gardens around the Visitor Center are lovely in the fall. Join us for a free garden tour on Saturday, September 20, from 1 to 3 p.m. and see for yourself. Color, fruits, seeds, late blooming plants, late-season insects – learn about these and more on this tour led by Susan Carpenter, garden curator. Meet at the Visitor Center, no registration required. This summer, UW–Madison students Holly and Kate joined Susan Carpenter and dozens of volunteers to care for the Native Plant Garden. They became fascinated by the diversity and ecological roles of many organisms in the garden, especially fungi. As the fall semester approached, Holly and Kate reflected on the myriad fungi they found and photographed during their summer garden experience: arboretum.wisc.edu/news/arboretum-news/gardening-with-native-plants-fungi/ 📷: Bird’s nest fungi growing on a log in the Native Plant Garden.
